US Tour
10 April-3 May, 2015

“I'm heading off to the USA to go on tour with the Monteverdi Choir. We're doing Monteverdi's L'Orfeo and Vespers which I have wanted to sing for years and years. Dream come true, I bloody love Monteverdi.
”

- Angela Hicks, Soprano

Three of our 2014/15 Apprentices flew stateside to perform Monteverdi Vespers and L'Orfeo with the Monteverdi Choir and English Baroque Soloists. Baritone Jake Muffet and sopranos Angela Hicks and Jessica Cale performed in eight performances across five US States.
The tour began at the University of North Carolina with a performance of Monteverdi's Vespers marking the opening of the tour at the Memorial Hall, Chapel Hill.

The first performance of L'Orfeo took place at the Kennedy Center, Washington DC, which received an overwhelming response from the audience,
“Unmatched musical intelligence, talent and joy." "Thorougly enjoyable" and "An extraordinary experience"

Two performances at Segerstrom Concert Hall, Costa Mesa, CA, provoked another overwhelming response with one audience member commenting
“This was one of the most fulfilling concerts i've been to. This Orchestra and Choir, led by this genius of a man, are arguably the most accomplished and refined baroque performers of our time."
- Anne Midgette, Washington Post

The Apprentices enjoyed a well-earned day of rest relaxing and playing volleyball on Laguna Beach in California before making their way to San Francisco.

Our performance of L'Orfeo at Davies Symphony Hall, San Francisco, was equally met by rapturous applause as the hall rose to their feet after the cut-off. Read the full review from the San Francisco Voice.

Finally the Apprentices performed at the Richardson Auditoriusm, Princeton, NJ, before heading to New York to perform in Carnegie Hall. The performance of Vespers spurred a moving response from both audience and reviewers with Harry Rolnick proclaiming
“Never in my concert-going life have I seen an audience, after 90 minutes of uninterrupted music, rise simultaneously, for last night's performance of Monteverdi's Vespers In Honor of the Blessed Virgin."

This performance of Monteverdi's Vespers was broadcast on April 30 on WQXR Classical Radio and is available to listen to online internationally.
“Very excited to be performing Monteverdi's Vespers at Carnegie Hall this evening (even doing a little trio)!"
- Jessica Cale, Soprano
