Dr Rosa Solinas
Rosa trained at conservatoires in her native Italy, and has since worked in music in various countries and in a number of different capacities, from academia to industry and consultancy to management. Her qualifications include an Honours Degree in Literature and Philosophy (Perugia), a Masters in Development and Innovation Economics (Bologna) and a Doctorate in Musicology (Oxford). Her professional experience ranges from teaching at Oxford University, artist management at a leading London agency, publications and special projects for English National Opera and the Royal Opera House in London and the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, management positions at Wexford Festival Opera and Opera Theatre Company, Dublin. Rosa also served as Head of Music of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, and was CEO of the Ulster Orchestra. She took up her role with the Monteverdi Choir and Orchestras in April 2015. Besides music, she has had time to develop just a few other lasting passions: her four beautiful children.
Finance & Administration Manager
Martin has over 20 years’ experience in arts finance and administration. He joined the Monteverdi team in November 2015 having previously been Finance Manager at London’s Royal Court Theatre and having held positions in several West End theatres. Prior to moving into the arts Martin spent 6 years in investment management. He has professional qualifications in both accountancy and investment management and is currently a trustee of Spread the Word, an Arts Council England NPO organisation that operates throughout London as a writer development agency across all writing genres.
Artistic Planning Manager
Matthew has over 25 years’ experience of working in the arts. He studied music at Bristol University and before coming to work for the Monteverdi had spent 10 years as Head of Planning for Welsh National Opera. Prior to this, Matthew has worked for a variety of organisations including BMG Classics (RCA Red Seal), Glyndebourne Festival and Touring Opera and Garsington Opera. Away from the office, Matthew enjoys country walks with his black Labrador, choral singing and craft work.
Tours & Choir Manager
Emily joined the Monteverdi in June 2016 as Tours & Concerts Manager. Having grown up in Yorkshire, Emily read Classics at King’s College London before working for the Britten-Pears Programme and Aldeburgh Residencies scheme in Suffolk for three years. She returned to London to work for artist management agency HarrisonParrott managing, among others, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Alison Balsom and Hélène Grimaud. Wanting a further challenge Emily transitioned within the company to the world of international orchestral touring, travelling not only to Europe but also more widely including China, Japan, Indonesia, Qatar.
Projects & Partnerships Coordinator
Tom joined the Monteverdi team in August 2017. Born in Yorkshire and raised in Surrey, he gained a BA in Music and an MA in Music Composition from Durham University. Upon graduating for the second time he entered the world of arts administration, working initially as Music Administrator at a West London school before joining the Concerts Department of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Here, he coordinated a wide variety of projects and events, from those around the music of Bach to world premieres of contemporary works. Outside office hours, he can be found either racing across the country on his bike, singing with chamber choirs around London or indulging his love of cats and other animals.
Librarian & Artistic Advisor
James grew up in Paris and read Music at Cambridge University. After a spell in the music library at Glyndebourne he was musical assistant to conductor Emmanuelle Haïm in France. When not with Monteverdi, James now works as a freelance musicologist, vocal coach and musical director. He is currently joint artistic director of the baroque collective Solomon’s Knot, with whom he has taken different productions to the Aldeburgh Festival. Within the Monteverdi team James takes care of the music library, looks after the Monteverdi Apprentices Programme and organises casting for certain projects.
Marketing & Communications Manager
Jonathan started life as a dancer, working his way across the globe with the English National Ballet, National Ballet of Iceland and Wiener Ballet Theater. Slipping off his ballet shoes in his mid-thirties and wanting to stay in the arts, Jonathan then went to English National Opera, where he served a fifteen year stint, graduating from Box Officer to the Press Office and finally to Marketing Manager for the final eight years. He now lives in Sutton with his wife and two energetic young boys who are always on the go. He’s been on the MCO team since January 2017.
Concerts & Projects Administrator
Grace joined MCO in August 2017 from London Sinfonietta where she worked as Concerts and Touring Administrator. Music has always played a big part in her life, having studied the piano at the Purcell School and Royal Northern College of Music. After graduating from RNCM, Grace started working at Musicians Answering Service before joining Harrison Parrott. She enjoys cooking, going to the cinema and following football in her spare time.
Esther grew up in Cambridge and graduated from Royal Holloway, University of London in July 2016 with a degree in History and Music. While in her final year, she developed an interest in music administration through volunteering for the University’s music department. After graduating, Esther spent time as a Hesse student at the Aldeburgh Festival. Before starting her role at the Monteverdi, she completed an internship in the Jette Parker Young Artist’s Programme at the Royal Opera House. Esther sings with The Bach Choir in her spare time.
